Alpha Phi Foundation Visits White House

( Washington , D.C. 2/2/04 ) - Alpha Phi Foundation Executive Director, Rebecca Zanatta, received an invitation from President and Mrs. Bush to attend a special women’s heart-health event at the White House.

Key-note speaker Laura Bush highlighted elements of a Presidential Proclamation, signed by President Bush during the event, declaring February as American Heart Month and Friday, February 6, 2004 , as the first annual National Wear Red Day in support of women's heart disease awareness. She also promoted ways to take charge of heart health.

Headquartered in Evanston , Ill , the non-profit Alpha Phi Foundation is the philanthropic and educational partner of the 140,000-member Alpha Phi International Fraternity. The Foundation supports programs and is a funding source of education in women’s cardiac health, leadership development, and philanthropy. For more than 50 years, Alpha Phi has focused on heart disease – the #1 killer of women in North America – and women’s cardiac health as philanthropic priorities. Most recently, the Foundation is encouraging Alpha Phi members to celebrate National Wear Red Day. Heart disease and stroke claim more women’s lives each year than the next seven causes of death combined, and nearly twice as many as all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
