Arizona State Chapter Hosts Gala Benefiting the Alpha Phi Foundation

TEMPE, ARIZ. -- Alpha Phi collegiate members at Arizona State (Beta Epsilon) hosted the chapter's First Annual Cardiac Care Gala on Oct. 23, 2004 at Orchid Restaurant in Phoenix, Ariz. Guests arrived dressed in red formal wear and participated in a live auction and a silent auction raising approximately $15,000 benefiting the Alpha Phi Foundation.

The Alpha Phi Foundation grants an annual Cardiac Care Award to institutions promoting the education, prevention and research of heart disease especially among women. "It's exciting to see parents, families and friends supporting the the Alpha Phi Foundation and women's heart disease research," said Rebecca Zanatta, Alpha Phi Foundation executive director.

Zanatta, who spoke on behalf of the Alpha Phi Foundation, was among two other speakers at the Cardiac Care Gala. Beta Epsilon chapter president Alexis Mussi spoke on behalf of her chapter and the meaning of Alpha Phi. Dr. Rebecca Dicken from the Scottsdale Healthcare Family Practice Residency, a Beta Epsilon chapter alumna, addressed the importance of educating women on the prevention of heart disease.

A skateboard autographed by Tony Hawk, Phoenix Sun basketball game tickets and a football autographed by Steve Young were among the items donated for use in the auctions.

Alpha Phi International Fraternity was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 as one of the first Greek societies for women.
