Collegians Find Way To Give To Boys and Girls Club® After School Program

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. (ALPHA PHI) Nov. 22, 2004 -- Members of Gamma Beta chapter of Alpha Phi International Fraternity donated 55 Six Flags® Magic Mountain® tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara.

Outgoing President Laura Jones and members Jamie Bye, Jessica McNamara and Amber Douglas represented the chapter at the Boys and Girls Club®, raffling the tickets among the 150 to 200 children in the after school program.

"It was a really good experience. They were so thankful and excited, it was really fun," Jones said.

Gamma Beta members received the Six Flags® Magic Mountain® tickets as a promotion from the theme park after holding one of its events there earlier this year. The chapter is also regularly involved with the Boys and Girls Club® of Santa Barbara, with a few of its members volunteering at the center a couple times a week.

Alpha Phi International Fraternity was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 as one of the first Greek societies for women. Alpha Phi is dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity and advocating service. The organization is comprised of more than 140 collegiate chapters and more than 130 alumnae chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The Alpha Phi Foundation is the fraternity’s philanthropic and educational partner. Through contributions from chapters, individual members and friends, the foundation supports women’s cardiac health and other charitable and educational projects. Together, Alpha Phi International Fraternity and Foundation develop character for a lifetime.
